WHAT IS THE TERRAIN?

The terrain varies a lot over the route. We try and maximise scenic routes and stay off main roads.

The combined distances of the different terrains are: 15km cycle paths, 9km off road, 23km pavements, 13km country lanes.

HOW SAFE IS IT?

The safety of our runners is our primary concern and we work hard to ensure that everyone who takes part in Dragon Seeker 60 arrives in Cardiff tired but injury free.

With 60 kilometers of varying terrain the most likely injury that a runner may experience is a twisted ankle or minor trip/fall.

So to minimise risks such as these we do the following:

Safety briefing at the start.

GPS tracker to monitor your progress and whereabouts.

Tracker have an emergency button to alerts organisers and ambulance crew of your location.

Route has easy Emergency access points all along it.

Medical ambulance support is provided for entire route.

All stage maps include contact numbers for the nearest hospital and police.

HOW EASY IS NAVIGATION?

The route is a mixture of road and country lanes.

There’s lots of signage we give you detailed route maps, with written instructions plus a GPS live tracker.

We have a team in our Hub monitoring you constantly so if there are any issues we will get in touch with you.

You DO NOT need to be able to read OS maps.

WHAT SHOES SHOULD I WEAR?

The terrain varies a lot over the route and there are a number of off road sections covering a total of 9km however given the event is in June we expect the conditions underfoot to be very dry. It’s up to you but we would recommend road shoes.

HOW AND WHEN ARE THE MAPS ISSUED?

The maps are issued 3 weeks before the race via a pdf in an email to you. A paper copy will be available for you at the Start.

WHEN WILL MY NUMBER ARRIVE?

We don’t provide large paper numbers for runners but instead provide wristbands. These are less cumbersome and easier to wear. They will be provided to you at the start.

CAN MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY TRACK ME?

Yes via our online tracking, your GPS will be displayed live for them.

This will be available on our home page during the event.

They can see you and other runners LIVE to within a few minutes.

WHAT IF I GET INJURED ALONG THE ROUTE?

Call the hub, they will be able to support you and help you wherever you are.

Vehicles will be on hand to drive runners who cannot continue to the finish.

At every checkpoint will be marshals who have been first aid briefed along with first aid provisions.

The marshals will be able to call in medical support.

For significant injuries medical support will come directly to your GPS location and can be requested via your GPS tracker.

CAN PEOPLE COME MEET ME ON ROUTE?

Friends and Family can come along to any of the checkpoints and support you.

They will not be allowed to join you in running along any of the route. This is not allowed due to health and safety reasons.

At checkpoints any supporters must follow the guidance and direction of the marshals.

IS THERE A DOWNLOADABLE GPS ROUTE?

No – there is not a downloadable GPS route.

Routes are issued via maps with detailed instructions and directions.

After the race you will be able to download your own GPS route that you took.
